Trained as a photographer, Mykolas Valantinas (b. 1996, Vilnius, Lithuania) approaches his interdisciplinary practice through the photographic act of "being there" – at the intersection of daily life, fashion, music, art, and culture at large. This instinct for a direct encounter pervades other media employed by Valantinas – sculpture, installation, video, film, and printmaking – to which equally central is the associative, mythological thinking, where images and motifs continuously repeat and mutate across disparate disciplines, each pointing to the next and the previous.

Whether the docufictional short film "Lullaby's Fault" (2025) – a metamorphic fairy tale alternating between the grounded first person POV and the distorted third person perspective – or the recent solo show "Father" – where the artistic archive of Valantinas' father is transformed into training data for an AI model to generate counterfeits – the resulting imagery reflects how knowledge systems, inherited narratives, and memory are interlinked within the increasingly algorithmic structure of the present time. Amidst this hyper-mediation and attempts at faking the real, Valantinas' practice is driven by a paradoxical, but nonetheless sincere yearning for the authentic – the outdated belief in photography's "decisive moment" that arrests the fleeting truth.
